Bessie Kondelis (nee Nicopoulos), 102, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on July 13, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Bessie Kondelis was born on in Chicago, Illinois to the late Constantine and Paraskevi (Bacoyanis) Nicopoulos of Tripolis, Greece. She spent her childhood in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago. She was the loving sister of the late Nick G Nicopoulos, Harry (Lois) Nicopoulos, Peter G (Jean) Nicopoulos, Paul (Jean) Nicopoulos, Helen (Nick) Polus, Kathryn (Thomas) Melanouris.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Peter N. Kondelis. She was the loving mother of Nicholas (Jamie) Kondelis, Elaine (Steven) Jaharis and Dean Kondelis. She was also the loving and proud yiayia of Melina, Michael (Sandie Xu) and Valerie Jaharis and Peter (Katelyn) and Dimitri Kondelis. Her family also wishes to acknowledge that she was lovingly cared for by Jesssica, Catherine, Jenn and Zofia

Bessie was known to family and friends as a fond aunt, a proud grandmother, and a loyal caring friend who was always willing to generously offer support, love and wisdom. She brightened everyone's day with her beautiful smile, kindness, generosity and grace. Her interests included gardening and flowers. She will be remembered by the loving multi-generations of family and friends she inspired. She will live within our hearts forever, lovingly remembered for her compassion, empathy, honesty, humor and positivity. May her memory be eternal.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 18 from 4:00PM – 8:00PM at N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home, 1240 Waukegan Rd, Glenview. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 19 at 10:30AM at St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, 5649 N. Sheridan Rd, Chicago. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie.

Kindly omit flowers. The family asks that memorial donations be sent in Bessie's memory to St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church or the Chicago Botanic Garden.
