Bessy R. (Diaz) Laperle passed away on June 2, 2025.
Bessy was born in Guatemala City on March 15,1961. She came to America to join her mother Bessy Rodriguez in Dorchester, MA. She was loved by her stepfather Ramon "Louis" Rodriguez, who raised her from the age of 9, along with Robert, Steve and later Estela.
In 1976 the family moved to Natick. Bessy graduated from Natick High School in 1981; she played Field Hockey, Volleyball, and was an All-American in Lacrosse. She then attended Bridgewater State College for more Lacrosse and to pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education. Bessy was a sun worshipper and loved the beaches. She always had a smile and a distinctive and infectious laugh. She loved movies and going to concerts.
Bessy was an office manager and met Tom through work, and they flirted; but Tom didn't know the child's picture on her desk was a nephew. After a few office visits, Tom finally asked her out. They were to meet at a Chinese restaurant down the street, but there were 2 on the same street. After an hour, they got it figured out (in the days before cell phones). After a year of courtship, they were married on August 19th, 2000, in Barre, VT in Tom's hometown. She moved to Watertown where they tried to have kids but had 2 miscarriages. She loved to go south on vacation in the winter to get away from the cold and snow. Then in 2006, Bessy had an accident that almost took her life. It was a hard recovery from a blunt force trauma causing a blood clot and a stroke. Her left side was paralyzed and she suffered from seizures; she managed to get some of her strength back with rehab and a lot of hard work. They moved to Marshfield soon after to be closer to the ocean. She enjoyed eating out and making new friends with anyone she met. Later in life her knee was always in pain from all the sports she played. She had a knee replacement and a back operation. But even with more rehab, the pain was still there. She succeeded in finding a reason to laugh every day. She still had a way with her that you don't forget. Her large brown eyes had some spark left in them; she enjoyed people and still enjoyed vacations with her hubby.
She leaves behind her husband Thomas Henry Laperle, her Mother Bessy E Rodriguez, in Natick MA, her siblings E Robert and wife Jacqueline Diaz, in SC; Estela A Shingleton, in MA; and Steve and wife Eunice Rodriguez, in FL. Sister-in-law Louise Laperle. Nephews Paul C Shingleton IV, in NY; Nathaniel F Shingleton, in MA; Jonathan L Rodriguez, in MA. Nieces: Roxanne L Wigfall, in MA, Jakia L Cruz, in MA, and Ariel Z Lugo, in FL
