Beth Arlin (Ryan) Cochran, 89, died peacefully surrounded by family members on June 25, 2025. Born to John and Amelia Ryan on January 9, 1936, Beth lived her entire life in Pueblo, a community she was proud to call home, and she devoted her life to cultivating rich and loving relationships.
She graduated from Central High School in 1954 and was active for many years on the reunion committee. A proud Wildcat, she enjoyed connecting with her classmates and their families. In 1958 she began a long career at the Colorado State Hospital, first as a psych tech and later as a dental assistant before retiring in 1996.
In 1961 she married Robert Cochran at First Presbyterian Church. They enjoyed 46 years of marriage until his death in 2007. Together they raised two children, Callie Cochran-Hager and Carlton Cochran. Beth often said her greatest joys were maintaining a loving and welcoming home and raising a family, and she succeeded while working full time outside the home. Indeed, her kitchen table, the hub of the household, welcomed friends and family for many years where they shared stories, expressed their joys and troubles, confided their secrets, and asked for advice and wisdom.
Beth provided a loving and listening ear, and she kept confidences safe inside her heart. She was the "go to" for asking medical advice, sharing recipes, pondering life's challenges, and recounting funny anecdotes. She was an excellent cook and especially enjoyed baking cakes for birthdays. She kept a birthday book and remembered others' special days with cards and phone calls, flower arrangements and gifts. A favorite activity was "card bombing" people on milestone birthdays. Additionally, she was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church's prayer chain for many years.
She enjoyed reading, listening to music, watching movies and television series, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her beloved dogs. She and Bob loved to dance and go out to dinner with friends. Her grandchildren marveled at her knowledge of cinema and actors, playfully nicknaming her the family's IMDb. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family on her patio, doing crafts, watching the birds and squirrels, and basking in the Colorado sunshine. She kept an ongoing home improvement project list, focusing on comfort and beauty. Her home was a source of pride.
Beth will be remembered as a woman with tremendous class and a sense of beauty. She valued honesty, integrity and a strong work ethic. She had a wicked sense of humor and enjoyed laughing. A loyal and steadfast listener, she shared her wisdom with candor and kindness and occasional brutal honesty. She was a devoted and doting grandmother and was present for both of their births. She loved children of all ages and animals and had a gentle way with them. Give her a crying and fussy baby and she could do wonders with her calm voice and gentle touch. She could banter with teens and color with young children. Strangers became friends in no time because she believed in relationship building. She was generous in her giving and supported a variety of charities and groups for many years. Beth leaves a legacy of love and a sincere wish that people would work harder to get along and respect one another's differences.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Ryan; her stepfather, Glenn White; her mother, Amelia White; her sister, Joyce Daberkow; and her son-in-law, Kent Hager. She is survived by her three children, Sidnee (Greg) Brummett, Callie Cochran-Hager, and Carlton Cochran, all of Pueblo; her granddaughters Quinn (Joshua) Hager and Erin Hager; a sister Sharon (Fergie) Ferguson; nieces Holly (Michael) Baker, Darla (Don) Hall and Shelly Ferguson; and nephews Jeff Ryan, Denny Higgs, Michael Ferguson and David Daberkow; and brother-in-law Merlin Daberkow, and many dear friends.
A loving dog mom, Beth leaves her precious English bulldog, Hamilton, in the care of her family.
Beth's family especially thanks the MICU staff at Parkview Hospital and her wonderful doctors and caregivers for their gentle and professional attention in her final days.
At her request, she will be cremated, and no services are scheduled. The family will host a celebration of life at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choosing.
