TOWNSEND: With deep sorrow, the McNabb family announces the death of Bette A. (Pease) McNabb, 84, of Townsend and Drakes Island, Maine, on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at her residence. Bette was a memorable, vivid, and indefatigable figure in the Townsend and Drakes Island communities and her presence will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Bette was born in Concord, NH on September 28, 1940. As the daughter of the late Chester C. and Elizabeth (Bickford) Pease, Bette was drawn to a career in nursing and a lifelong dedication of helping others in need, particularly the elderly. In 1961 she graduated from Children's Hospital School of Nursing in Boston and later received her Masters Degree in Nursing from Boston University.
Throughout her career, Bette held Registered Nursing positions at several facilities including Nashoba Community Hospital in Ayer. She was Director of Nursing at both Mary Immaculate Nursing Home in Lawrence and The Highlands in Fitchburg.
Without doubt, Bette's happiest moments were on the ocean in Maine with her children and grandchildren. Her joy at being surrounded by family was indescribable. In addition to family gatherings, Bette enjoyed kayaking, walking the beach, attending her book club meetings, staying in touch with her many dear friends, watching the Red Sox, and being her grandchildren' s greatest fan at any and all activities. In addition, she was a communicant at St. John's Church in Townsend.
She leaves four sons, Terrence M. McNabb Jr. of Boston, Timothy C. McNabb, Daniel G. McNabb and his wife, Kelly, Colin M. McNabb all of Townsend, two daughters, Kathleen L. Hatch and her husband, Michael of Colchester, VT, Karen E. Noon and her husband. Peter of Townsend; her sister, Sherry Pease Vaughan of Townsend; ten grandchildren, Liam Hatch, Charlotte Hatch, Nicole McNabb, Alex McNabb, Lily Noon, Garrett Noon, Rebecca Noon, Finneas McNabb, Declan McNabb and Jillian McNabb.
She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Terrence M. McNabb in April 2016.
Despite her death, Bette's strength, courage, and constant optimism will continue to serve as an inspiration to both her family and closest friends.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10AM Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at St. John's Church Hall, 1 School Street, Townsend. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Bette's family will receive relatives and friends at calling hours 4-7 PM Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at the Anderson Funeral Home, 250 Main Street, (Rte. 119) Townsend Center. www.andersonfuneral.com
