ROXOBEL, NC – Bettie Hall Walston passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the age of 82. She was born July 5, 1943, in Bertie County, North Carolina to Floyd Acree Hall and Janie Lowe Hall Reynolds.
Bettie, the second of four girls, grew up a farmer's daughter, spending many hours in the fields. She attended Roxobel-Kelford School and graduated in 1961 from West Bertie High School. At the age of 18, she met Lonnie Perry Walston. They married on September 3, 1961, and she became a farmer's wife. They made their home in Roxobel, and together they had Julie and Perry. Bettie was a homemaker and helped Lonnie on the farm. When the children began attending school, she began working outside the home at the Roxobel Post Office. Later, she was employed at Southern Bank in Roxobel, where she worked for many years.
Bettie loved her community and was a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church. She was also a member and treasurer of the Roxobel Community Club. A very creative person, Bettie enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafts, and basket making. In her later years, she started painting and became an accomplished artist. Before her health became limiting, she was always involved in her church activities and was instrumental in implementing the annual church bazaar. She loved her family fiercely and treasured her cousins and friends who were like family to her. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy.
She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Acree Hall; her mother, Janie Hall Reynolds; her husband, Lonnie Perry Walston, Sr.; and her sister, Terry Hall Robbins.
Left to carry on her legacy are her daughter, Julie Walston Emory, and husband Scott of Lasker, and son, Lonnie Perry Walston, Jr., and wife Peggy of Union. Bettie is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Ashley Walston Poole and husband Sean of Wake Forest; Lonnie Perry Walston, III of Ahoskie; Rebecca Emory Rouse and husband Zachary of Winterville; and Brittany Elizabeth Walston and fiancé Sebastian Lee of Sunbury. She is also survived by her cherished great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Savannah Poole, Sebastian and Jude Lee, and Carson Rouse.
