Betty Jean Carrington was born on August 28, 1946, to the late Eugene Carrington and Catherine A. Buckingham Carrington in Lexington, KY. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and went on to attend Norfolk State University. With a heart for service and care, Betty devoted her professional life to education and community, working as a Teacher's Assistant for Norfolk Public Schools and later as a bookkeeper for Concern Athletes in Action.

Betty was known for her generous spirit, infectious laugh, and love for people. She never met a stranger and formed lasting bonds across every city she called home, Lambert's Point, Gold Mill, Richmond, and Stone Mountain, Georgia. Her kitchen was a place of joy and connection. She was a gifted cook, famous for her barbecue and pig feet dinners with her famous potato salad, often requested and remembered fondly by many.

Her faith was unwavering. When she lived in Stone Mountain, GA, she became a member of Berean Christian Church under the leadership of Dr. Kerwin B. Lee, she found strength and inspiration in the Word of God. She faithfully tuned in to TBN, with Creflo Dollar among her favorite ministers. Betty lived her life as an encourager, often uplifting others with scripture and wisdom.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two beloved brothers, Bennie Carrington and Thomas Carrington.

She leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories with her two sons: Rodney Carrington, Sr. (Tye) of Hampton, GA, and Eric Carrington (Senora) of Covington, GA; four siblings: Faye D. Carrington, Fannie Spruill, Dennis Carrington, Sr. (Pauletta) all of Norfolk, VA, Dr. Gary Carrington (Nevena) of Cleveland, OH; five beloved grandsons: Rodney Carrington, Jr. (Whitney) of Tulsa, OK, Ryan Carrington of Los Angeles, CA, Regan Carrington of Hampton, GA, Bryce Carrington and Myles Carrington of Richmond, VA; and three treasured great-grandchildren: Casey of Stone Mountain, GA, Teagan and Luna Carrington of Tulsa, OK; one aunt, Henrietta Buckingham of Richmond, VA.

She will also be lovingly remembered by lifelong friends who became family, Dennis Claggion, Hazel Baker, Julia Hill, Odessa Thompson, Linda Howcott, and Arlene Allen, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates, and dear friends. Betty's life was a true testament of love, faith, and joy; she will be deeply missed and forever celebrated.
