Betty Hicks Gasaway, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. She was born in Rock Mills, Alabama, on July 10, 1934, the daughter of the late Glover Truitt Hicks and Annie Ray Keeble Hicks.
Betty grew up in Alabama and graduated from Handley High School. In her younger years, she worked as a switchboard operator with Southern Bell, but her greatest calling was as a devoted homemaker, wife, and mother. She poured her love into her family and found joy in the simple, meaningful things such as tending to her garden, reading a good book, and playing a competitive game of Scrabble. Above all, her happiest moments were those spent surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild.
Her life was anchored by her faith, and she was a longtime member of the Church of Christ. Betty lived out her faith quietly but deeply, with a heart full of love, devotion, and care for others.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Donald "Don" Gasaway; her son, Edward Donald Gasaway II; as well as one sister and three brothers.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Charles Landers, Jan and Rick Stewart, and Sabrina Bishop; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Betty's family was her greatest blessing, and her legacy of love will live on through each of them.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home in Carrollton, Georgia. A service celebrating Betty's life will follow at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home, with Chaplain Kenneth Brown officiating. She will be laid to rest in a private ceremony. Bill Head, Wesley Griffin, Donnie Gasaway, Scott Lackey, Jason Stewart, Zander Head, Charles Griffin, Cooper Stewart, and Charlie Stewart will serve as pallbearers.
Messages of love and condolences may be shared with the family at www.martin-hightower.com. Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel is honored to care for the Gasaway family during this time.
