Betty J. (Claycomb) Geisel, 96, of Quaker Valley Road, Alum Bank, passed away at home on Thursday, March 31, 2022. Born April 23, 1925, in Alum Bank, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Gertrude (Fickes) Claycomb. Her husband of 65 years, Jack H. Geisel, Sr., whom she married on June 30, 1947, preceded her in death on January 20, 2013.
Betty was a 1943 graduate of Pleasantville High School. During World War II, she was employed in Philadelphia and later Lancaster, PA installing radio tubes in aircraft for the war effort. Betty owned and operated a beauty shop in Pleasantville and helped at the family Funeral Homes doing hair. She was a member of Alum Bank United Methodist Church where she was also involved in the United Methodist Women.
Betty was a genuinely kind and caring lady who made everyone feel welcome. Her warm personality and bright smile brought great joy to all she met. She was a devoted wife to Jack Sr. and was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by three children, Jack H. Geisel, Jr. and wife Sandra (Parkinson) of Schellsburg, Thomas L. Geisel and wife Kay (Jefferis) of Chambersburg, and Linda L. Winegardner and husband Jeffrey of Schellsburg; six grandchildren, Pamela O'Neill and husband Keith, Thomas L. Geisel II and wife Nicki (Shively), Jessica Carbaugh and husband Phillip, Abigail Santos and husband Christian, Gisele College and husband Jesse, and Adam Winegardner and wife Kelly (Fisher); ten great grandchildren, Justin, Jarrod and Jacob Styer, Atlee and Jack Geisel, Jack and Jase College, Lucas Winegardner, and Francine and Thomas Carbaugh; four step grandchildren, Tommy Riffle, Sean Riffle, Katie Boryan and Steve Hershberger; nine step great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Geonna, Brennley and Kamdyn Riffle, Emma, Henry, Alice and Caitlin Boryan and Kamden Hershberger; and her brother, William W. Claycomb and wife Joan of Alum Bank. Aside from her parents and husband, Betty is preceded in death by five siblings, Anna Otto, Charles "Sonny" Claycomb, John "Bud" Claycomb, Alma Walker and Mildred Carberry.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 4, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Jack H. Geisel Funeral Home, Inc., 4340 Quaker Valley Road, Alum Bank, PA 15521. Rev. Thomas Strandburg will officiate. Interment will follow in Fishertown Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Sunday, April 3, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Betty Geisel to the Alum Bank United Methodist Church, 208 Locust St., Alum Bank, PA 15521.
