Betty M. Irwin, 98, of Zoar, died Saturday, May 10, 2025 at her residence. Born September 16, 1926 in Oneida, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Alta Pealy Shroyer.
She was a 1944 graduate of Mineral City High School and was one of the members of the first band in Mineral City in 1939. Betty and her husband lived a short time in Dayton while he was stationed with the Air Force at Wright Field. During WW II Betty was Rosie the Riveter on B 52 wing flaps for the Burger Company. She later worked at U.S. Quarry Tile then worked as a waitress at the former Zoar Hotel. She was also a seamstress for many years and helped the Tusky Valley Band for 30 years. She also made costumes for the Ohio History Connection for Zoar Village and Schoenbrun and did alterations and complete weddings, with some of her sewing going as far as California. She attends Zoar United Church of Christ where she is a member of the Women's Guild. Betty was a former 4-H advisor (Clever Cloveretts of Zoar) and was clerk-Treasurer of Zoar Village for many years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, knitting and home canning and she was an election poll worker for over 60 years.
On November 18, 1944 she married the love of her life, Paul E. Irwin. She is survived by her son David L. Irwin of Zoar.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 2 sons Danny Paul Irwin, Tommy Irwin, step father George Shroyer and a brother Jack Pealy.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Lebold-Smith Funeral Home in Bolivar. Pastor Daniel Grimminger and Pastor John States will officiate and burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Sandyville. Friend may call Thursday from 11:00 AM until time of services at 1:00 PM.
