Obituary published on Legacy.com by Olmstead Funeral Home - Heber Springs on Oct. 1, 2025.
Our loving mother, Betty Jewell Ludwig passed peacefully on July 11, 2025 in hospice care in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was 96 years old and had experienced a fabulous loved filled life.
She was born on December 30, 1928 in San Diego, California to Sarah E. Snipes Morrison (1905-1982) and Col. Jewel E. Morrison (19014987). As a young mother, Betty was a homemaker who was active in her children's activities and served many years as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader as well as the PTA president and leader in the North Little Rock Women's Club. Betty was a graduate of East High School in Denver, Colorado as well as a 1948 graduate of Colorado Women's College. In 1958 she was happily married to Augustine (Gus) H. Ludwig (1933-2019) just before he deployed for service in Germany for 2 years. This was the beginning of the dedicated passion for travel together and their love of knowing people from around the world. They returned to Denver and in 1965 transferred to North Little Rock, Arkansas for Gus's work. They fell in love with Arkansas and never looked back.
In the 1980's, Betty worked as a Tax Preparer for H&R Block and would continue on her own in that profession part time for the rest of her life. The joy of travel continued to drive her life's decisions and by the 1990's Betty had become a full time travel agent in Little Rock, Arkansas. Together, Betty and Gus had enjoyed over 55 cruises around the world. Through her work, they had traveled the world where they continually met new friends and visited various family members. In 1972 they bought their lake home on Greers Ferry Lake, Arkansas where family reunions, family parties and weddings occurred. This was Betty's happy place as she was always the gracious hostess for any type of gathering. Spending quality time with family and grandchildren was always the most import activity in Betty's life. For over 35 years, Betty never missed a registration week or recital week for helping her daughter with her dance school in Norman, Oklahoma.
In 2003 Betty and Gus moved to the Heber Springs Area where Betty became active in the First Presbyterian Church of Heber Springs as well as many other volunteer activities within the community. Betty's connection to her church and all the Heber Springs friends and family meant so much to her in the later years of her life.
Betty is survived by her two children and their spouses. They are Margaret Mitchell and Victor Watkins of Norman, Oklahoma and Stephen Ludwig and LaRae Ludwig of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Austin Ludwig and his wife Kayleigh Ludwig of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Emma Ludwig; Ashlyn Ludwig; Nick Gallos and his wife Rebecca Gallos of Aiken, South Carolina. She is also survived by 3 great-grandchild, Kaiston Ludwig, Maria Gallos and Sophia Gallos.
She is predeceased by her brother, Robert Morrison and his wife Betty Jean Morrison of Arvada, Colorado.
