It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Mrs. Betty Jean Nero, 76, of Florence, who peacefully transitioned on Thursday, October 30, 2025.
Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this time of loss and remembrance.
Betty Jean James Nero was born in Florence, SC on February 24, 1949, to Alfred and Mable
Grant James. She departed this life on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the age of 76.
She attended the Florence Public School system and graduated from Wilson High School Class
of 1968. She was formally employed at Florence General Hospital and retired from Faith
Healthcare Center.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Otis Nero; her parents, Alfred and
Mable James; a brother, Eugene James; two sisters, Elvira James and Elizabeth James; a nephew,
Willie James; and her first grandson, Markell LaQuan Nero.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her three sons, Michael (Brenda) Nero of Texas; Mark
(Felicia) Nero and Mitchell Washington, of Florence, SC; a daughter, Monita (Ryan) Cummings
of Florence, SC; seven grandchildren: Teoshia Nero, Tyeshia (Jacques) Johnson of Texas;
Markia Nero, MaLeah Nero, Makayla Nero, Ryan Cummings, Jr. of Florence, SC; and Markese
Nero of North Carolina; four great grands: A'Niyah Jones, Jakaden Tennell, Jacorques Johnson,
Jr. of Texas and MacKenzie Sweet of Florence, SC; a special friend, Stephanie Johnson of
Florence, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Betty's love, laughter, and legay will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who knew and
loved her.
