Betty Jean Printy was born April 17, 1947, in Bonaparte, Iowa, to Earl and M. June Tripp Scearcy. A gifted potter, beloved wife, and doting mother, Betty was known for her nurturing spirit and endless creativity. She spent the majority of her life in Bentonsport, Iowa, a community she loved and contributed to significantly. A graduate of Van Buren High School, class of 1965, Betty initially worked at Universal in Fairfield. With the birth of her children, she transitioned to being a stay-at-home mother and began her pottery business, pouring her creativity and love into raising Teressa, Troy, Melissa, and April. In 1986, her time spent as a potter and ceramics artist led her to developing the process of her trademark Queen Anne's Lace Pottery. In 1990, she married Bill Printy in Argle, Iowa, and after combining their talents the famous Iron and Lace was established. They shared 35 wonderful years together, creating, teaching and impacting countless lives.
Betty was a devoted member of PEO and the Bentonsport Improvement Association. She found joy in gardening, baking bread, tending to her flowers, and canning the produce from her garden. As a member of the Van Buren Arts Council and through her pottery, she made significant contributions to the local artistic community. Whether it was through her art, her time spent in the garden, or the love she poured into her family, Betty's life was a testament to the beauty and strength that can blossom from a kind heart.
