Sandra "Sandy" Frances Smith, 83, of Bonaparte, Iowa, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025. Born in Springfield, OH on August 18, 1942, to Horace and Crystal Morris Wagner. Her life was defined by her devotion to her faith, her family, and her community.
Sandy graduated from Perry Zane High School in East Liberty, OH. She lived most of her life in Springfield, OH, dedicating 36 years to Siemens as a diligent factory worker before retiring. Sandy relocated to Van Buren County in 2001, where she became an active member of the Bonaparte Baptist Church and her beloved Chocolate Sisters group. She was known for her famous "frappies," a special treat she made with love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sandy is survived by her three sons, Brian Smith, Joe Smith, and Jeff (Sonya) Smith; two grandchildren, Luke Smith and Heather (TJ) Frasher; six great grandchildren, Blake, Brooklyn, Sam, Charlie, Max, and Oliver; three siblings, Dave (Jaquie) Wagner, Judy Lenhart, and Rita (Phil) Metz, as well as many extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, JD Smith, whom she married on January 4, 1962; her parents, Horace and Crystal Wagner; her sister, Janet Bailey; her daughter-in-law, Judy Smith; and her brother-in-law, Butch Lenhart.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 10:00am at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Keosauqua, IA. The memorial service will follow at 11:00am at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Caston officiating. Memorial contributions in Sandy's honor may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and mailed c/o Cranston Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 189, Fairfield, IA 52556. Let us remember Sandy's legacy as a woman of faith, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and devoted friend.
