Betty, age 97, passed away on Friday, December 27th, 2024. She was born in Rochester, NY on September 12th, 1927. The daughter of Ida Briggs and Frank Porter and sister to Gene Porter and Warren Porter. She married her high school sweetheart Luther Tarbox on May 5, 1949. Luther (deceased, October 4, 2009) was a US Air Force Officer, Lieutenant Colonel. They traveled the world together. They had three children, Betty Lu (deceased), Thomas, and Cynthia (deceased). After retirement they settled in San Antonio, TX. Betty was a homemaker for most of her life. She called herself a "household engineer". She loved being an officer's wife, a homemaker, a mother. She enjoyed supporting charities, especially US Veterans and animal rescue organizations.
In April 2023, she became ill and had to move from her home to The Legacy at Forest Ridge Assisted Living Facility in Schertz, TX. Betty made many new friends there. The Legacy Staff Members are wonderful. They took care of her and treated her like family. She loved living there.
Betty is survived by her son Thomas Tarbox, daughter in law Kathleen Tarbox, grandson Jason Tarbox, granddaughter in law Courtney Tarbox, great granddaughter Aubrey Tarbox, great grandson Garrett Tarbox, and many Porter family and Tarbox family nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at Fort Sam Cemetery. There is no visitation or viewing scheduled.
