Bettye Garrett Lawlis, a remarkable matriarch and beloved member of her family, peacefully passed away on July 8, 2025, at the Hendrick Health Center. She was born on January 17, 1942, in Anson, and lived a life rich with love, dedication, and unwavering faith.
Bettye was widely recognized as the glue that held her family together. She took immense joy in following her children’s sports activities, proudly cheering them on from the sidelines. Her passion extended to her grandchildren, Jackson and MacKenzie, for whom she exemplified the essence of love and encouragement. Bettye's garden flourished under her attentive care, just as her family thrived with her nurturing spirit. She loved to work in her yard, and her green thumb was evident to all who visited her beautiful home.
An individual of strong convictions, Bettye had a profound faith in God that underscored her life's journey. She dedicated herself to helping others through her advocacy for Al-Anon, supporting many individuals and families during challenging times. Her strength and compassion resonated with everyone fortunate enough to know her.
In addition to her commitment to family and service, Bettye enjoyed a variety of hobbies. She found joy in shopping and traveling, often sharing stories of her adventures with loved ones. A talented musician, she played the piano, bringing music into her home and creating cherished memories around the family.
Bettye is survived by her husband, Harvey Lawlis; her sons, Mitch Lawlis (Teresa) and Jeff Lawlis (Meghan); and her treasured grandchildren, Jackson and MacKenzie. She was preceded in death by her father, Lester H. Garrett, and her mother, Evelyn Lepard Garrett.
The legacy of Bettye Garrett Lawlis will live on in the hearts of her family and many friends, whose lives she touched with her kindness, strength, and love.
