Beverley Ackert

Beverley Ann Ackert died on September 8, 2024 in hospice comfort care at Phelps Memorial Hospital, succumbing to a recurrence of colon cancer. She was eighty-one years old and was the daughter of Stanley M. Ackert, Jr. and Margaret A. Ackert. Beverley grew up in White Plains and graduated from White Plains High School and Good Counsel College. She earned her Masters degree in history from Iona College. Beverley taught history at Mount Vernon High School for over thirty years and went on with her good friend Doreen to develop a cooking and catering business, "Plato's Kitchen." Under the tutelage of her dear friend Malcolm MaCrae, she developed a deep knowledge and appreciation of good wine. She traveled extensively around the world, but her warm spot was always Eleuthera in the Bahamas. Her home in Valhalla was filled with the artwork and furnishings acquired during her travels and from antiquing in the Hudson Valley and Pennsylvania Dutch country. And like the swallows to Capistrano, she had genetic radar that always led her back to Rhinebeck and the roots of the Ackert family in Ackert Hook.
She is survived by her brother, Stanley M. Ackert III, and her brother-in-law, Robert P. Rems, of Claverack, New York. The funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, September 11 at 10 am at Holy Name of Jesus church, 2 Broadway, Valhalla, New York followed by interment at Kensico Cemetery.
