Mrs. Beverly James Boyd, age 87, of Waleska, GA passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025, surrounded by her family. Beverly was born in Austell, GA on August 13, 1938.
Beverly lived most of her life in Cobb County. She was a longtime member of the Austell First Baptist Church. Beverly dedicated her life to family and friends where she was known for loving deeply, sharing in the tough times and celebrating good times. Beverly showed her love by mentoring, guiding and intervening on other’s behalf when needed. Beverly enjoyed decorating wedding cakes and catering weddings for loved ones. She enjoyed swimming, roller skating, dancing, and working in her yard.
Beverly gave of herself to her community by serving as President of the PTA at Powder Springs Elementary, Tapp Middle School, and McEachern High School. She served the children of Georgia at the state level of the PTA and as an elected member of the Cobb County School Board. Beverly served several terms on the Austell City Council and was an active member of the Austell Business Association.
Beverly is preceded in death by her parents, Lottie and Mayor C.H. "Fat" James, Sr., husbands, Donald E. Boyd and Tom Walston, II, brother, Charles Harris James, Jr, and grandson, Chase Boyd.
She is survived by 2 children, Chip (Rosalind) Boyd, Kennesaw, GA, and Donna Whitehead, Waleska, GA; daughter of her heart, Sharliss (David) Arnold, Franklin, TN; bonus daughter, Sally (Bob) Neely, Melbourne, FL; sister, Betty Barnes, Marietta, GA, sister-in-law, Opal James, Powder Springs, GA; grandchildren, Megan (Bryce) Perry, Marietta, GA, Brett (Lauren) Boyd, Dallas, GA, Morgan (Dylan) McCarter, Cumming, GA, and Annabelle (Hunter) Frank, Waleska, GA, Kevin and Katherine Neely, Melbourne, FL; great grandchildren, Gabriel, Roman, and Lottie Perry, Marietta, GA, and Carter and Millie Boyd, Dallas, GA, Blair McCarter, Cumming, GA; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 2PM on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta. Burial will follow at Powder Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12PM - 2PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
