Beverly Jean Deaton

Beverly Jean Deaton, a cherished pillar of the Austin, Indiana community, passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on May 20, 1940, in Madison, Indiana, Beverly was the loving daughter of the late William and Lucy Ponder.
On November 26, 1958, Beverly united in marriage with her beloved husband, Wilford Deaton, who preceded her in death on August 31, 2018. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, adventure, and an enduring love that stood as a testament to their commitment to one another.
Beverly was well-known in the community as the owner of Deaton's Yard Sale in Austin, Indiana, where she brought smiles and good deals to countless customers. Her entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by her passion for the outdoors. An avid fisher, coon hunter, and gardener, Beverly found solace and joy in the embrace of nature. Her love for antiquing, yard sales, and playing corn hole were sources of countless cherished memories for her family and friends.
Perhaps one of Beverly's most notable traits was her green thumb. Her pride and joy were her flowers, which she tended to with meticulous care, creating a haven of beauty that reflected the vibrancy of her spirit.
Beverly's legacy is carried on by her loving family, including her sons, Richard Mark Deaton (Patty) of Navarre, Florida, and Wilford Scott Deaton (Terrena) of Austin, Indiana; her daughter, Sherry Moore of Austin, Indiana; her brother, Bill Ponder of Jamestown, Kentucky; and her sisters, Nancy Ponder of Russell Springs, Kentucky, and Henrietta Ponder of Hollywood, Florida. She was a proud grandmother to 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy and pride to her life.
In addition to her husband, Wilford, Beverly was preceded in death by her daughter, Ginger Stollings, her brothers, Maynard Ponder and Ford Ponder, and her sisters, Martha Reece, Macy Miller, Unamay Ponder, and Birt Ponder.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Beverly's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Buchanan Funeral Home in Austin, Indiana, with Rev. Don Watts officiating. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation from 12 to 2 pm on Sunday at Buchanan Funeral Home. Beverly will be laid to rest at New Providence Cemetery in Austin, Indiana.
