Beverly Ann Patterson Hundley, the youngest of two daughters born to the late Alice Cary Patterson and Alfred Patterson, succumbed to a hard-fought and lengthy battle with cancer on October 26, 2025. She was 70 years old.
She was born on February 13, 1955, in
Williamsburg, VA, and was a lifelong resident. She was baptized at First Baptist Church of Williamsburg as a child. She grew up in the church, first singing as a four-year-old in the Cherubs Choir, and attending Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a steadfast member who served in several church ministries, including chair of the Women's Fellowship and the Music Ministry. Also, she served as a member of the Pastor's Aid and the Women's Auxiliary. For several years, she served as a new members' class counselor along with her husband, Ronald. She loved her church and her church family, and she was always willing to be involved in church activities.
Beverly graduated from James Blair High School in 1973 and attended Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), where she earned her bachelor's degree in Vocational Rehabilitation in 1977. She began her career as a social service worker at Eastern State Hospital, where she was employed for several years before she decided to make a major career change to become a public school teacher. She attended the College of William & Mary, where she earned a master's degree in Special Education in 1987. She was a gifted, dedicated teacher who encouraged her students in all aspects of learning. She retired from the Williamsburg-James City County School system after 25 years of service.
Following retirement from her teaching career, she aspired to become a Real Estate Agent with Long and Foster Realty, and again she excelled in her chosen occupation. She was also a committed member of several service, professional, and community organizations. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for 50 years, having been initiated into the Theta Rho Chapter at VCU. She actively served with the Lambda Lambda Omega Chapter of Williamsburg. She was a Lifetime member of the York-James City-Williamsburg NAACP. Whenever and whatever she chose to engage, she did it with her whole heart.
Beverly joined hands in holy matrimony with her high school sweetheart, Ronald E. Hundley, on October 6, 1979. Together, they shared 46 years of married life. To this union, they were blessed with two daughters, Rebecca Hundley Shipp (Armond) and Rosalyn Hundley Barnett (Clifford), and a 2 ½-year-old grandson, Jalen Bryce Shipp. In addition to her husband, daughters, sons-in-law, and grandson, she leaves to cherish her fond memories her sister, Alvene Patterson Conyers; first double cousins, James C. Patterson Jr. and John W. Patterson; childhood and lifelong friend, Lorraine Jackson Bell; college friend, May Grant; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many caring friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at First Baptist Church - Williamsburg. Interment to follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Hundley may be viewed from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home.
