Beverly Jean McDowell, 84, moved from Richland Nursing and Rehab, Olney to her heavenly home on Friday, July 12, 2024, with her family by her side.
Bev was born on December 13, 1939, the daughter of Otis and Icy (Earnst) York. She loved God and her family. She set an example for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was loved by so many in this world.
Bev was a Beautician with her beauty shop called Bev's Country Cuts. Bev was an avid gardener. Her love for beautiful flowers and landscaping was a joy and hobby at her home. She loved to bake and cook and was an excellent pie maker. She made thousands of pies and cakes, and she was the queen of a coconut cream pie. Taking meals to the sick and needy was her passion as she had such a giving heart. She loved to have guests over to her house to cook for them. Bev also loved to shop for clothing and had a love for costume jewelry. She was a light in this world, not only because of her love for the Lord, but also because of the size of her necklaces.
As much as Bev loved flowers, baking and shopping, she loved her faith and family more, only wishing everyone would love God like she did. Bev's faith was in Jesus Christ. Though she was a humble woman, she was not afraid to speak her mind. She was a powerful prayer warrior and only Heaven knows what a wonderful eternal impact all her years of faithful praying has had on her family, friends, and country. Bev was very active teaching children's Sunday school classes along with being heavily involved with many church activities. She was active in the Reclaiming Christian Values Organization fighting to keep Christian values in our community and country.
Bragging on her children, Bev always stated that she had the best kids. All her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apple of her eye. Bev will be sadly missed and will leave a hole in everyone's heart who knew her.
Bev was the beloved mom and is survived by her children Scott (Connie) McDowell and Vicki (Jack) Shawver both of Olney; Grandchildren Lacy (Kirk) Walters; Colby (Alexis) Shawver; Brittany (Connor) Dixon; Coen McDowell and Cade McDowell all of Olney; Great-grandchildren Rylyn and Irelan Walters, Parker and Case Shawver and Brynn Dixon. Bev was proceeded in death by her parents and her brothers Darrell York, Jim York, Don York, and infant brother Jackie York.
A visitation and funeral service will be held for Beverly at Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong, IL on Thursday, July 18, 2024, with visitation services from 9:30am-11:30am and the funeral service following at 11:30am. Burial will follow in Oblong Cemetery.
