Beverly Catherine (Sommerfield) Stassen was born on August 14, 1930, in Clara City, MN, to Paul and Katherine (Broich) Sommerfield. She grew up in a variety of communities and graduated from high school at St. Columba High School in Iona, MN. On September 26, 1956, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Stassen in Minneota, MN. The couple lived in Ghent until purchasing a farm and moving to Walnut Grove in 1967. The couple moved to Hill Street Place in 2016, Boulder Estates in 2018, and Beverly moved to Heritage Pointe in 2021.
Bev‘s faith and family were very important to her. She was a very good listener to everyone and made them feel loved and important to her. She loved to joke with people and had a special wink that she shared with many. She was very proud of her strong handshake and her penmanship for which she won an award in school. The couple enjoyed fishing, travelling and dancing, especially to polka or old time music. Bev also enjoyed gardening, reading, canning and ironing. Later on, she enjoyed playing cards, especially solitaire. She embroidered dish towels for many family members. Bev looked forward to the recipes on the radio show “Kitchen Klatter.” She really enjoyed her morning and afternoon tea. Bev was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed.
Bev died on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, surrounded by family at Heritage Pointe Senior Living in Marshall, MN.
