Big Kuen Chan

Big Kuen Chee Chan, age 92, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026. She was born on December 20, 1933, in Pingan Village, Taishan, Guangdong, China, to Fatt Yao Chee and King Fong Chan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Hung Kirk Chan, and her sister, Big Gim Chee.

She is survived by her three children: Miu Ying Chan (Yue Tong), Yuk Shing Chan (Lisa Law), and Wai Ying Chan (Michael Centineo). She was a proud grandmother to Jason Tong, Joshua Tong, Jessica Tong, Fiona Chan, Gigi Chan, and Brian Chan; step-grandmother to Michael Centineo, Jr., and David Centineo (Kaitlynn); and step–great-grandmother to Jack A. Centineo. She is also survived by her sister, Bea Li Chee.

Big Kuen Chee Chan was an extraordinary woman who overcame many obstacles throughout her life. She worked as a chef at Maple Garden for over twenty years, where she was known for her dedication and skill. She will be remembered for her strength, resilience, and devotion to her family.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124, on Friday, January 23, 2026, starting at 9:30 AM. Followed by prayers in the parlor. The burial will be private.
