Bill Catlett, 92, of Shelbyville passed away peacefully on October 2nd, 2025.

Born in 1933 in Shelbyville KY, he was known from an early age for his good nature, charm and kindness. In high school he was voted "All-Around Best Boy", a title that reflected the way he carried himself throughout his life.

Genuine and hardworking, he loved to laugh. And, he had a gift for making others laugh along with him. He was thoughtful. And believed in the power of small things done with great care. Regularly fixing things before you even realized they were broken, and showing up with breakfast just because he thought you might need it. He gave freely of his time and resources and if someone was in need he was the 1st to step forward with a helping hand.

A lifelong farmer, he farmed well into his late 80s. He took pride in raising dairy cows and various crops. He spent countless hours tending to his award-winning tobacco that earned him respect among fellow farmers and the community. To him farming wasn't just an occupation but a way of life that he loved deeply.

When he wasn't working on the farm, Bill found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He loved Westerns-whether in books or on the screen-and never tired of a good cowboy tale. He was an avid fisherman, always ready with a pole and his trusty Keystone lure. Whether casting into a pond or the ocean, he found peace in the water and joy in teaching his children and grandchildren how to tie a proper fishing line. He also enjoyed being a member of the Solomon Masonic Lodge #5 in Shelbyville.

Above all, he was devoted to his family. He was the proud father of 4 daughters whose lives he enriched with quiet wisdom, gentle humor, and strong reassuring hugs. He loved his wife Laverne with his whole heart, and they enjoyed many years together before her passing.

He leaves behind a legacy of devotion, generosity and hard work. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Emma Wilson Catlett; his sister, Anita May; his brothers, Clarence and Mac Catlett; his daughter, Debbie Greer; and his beloved wife, Edith Laverne Acre Catlett. Leaved to cherish his memory are his daughters, Mitzi Tinsley, Lisa Wilder, April Probus (Tim), 8 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great – great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon Friday, October 10, 2025, graveside at the Grove Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Boyd officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m.-11:45 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Shannon Funeral Home.
