William "Bill" E. Holmes, Sr., 83, of Brandon, Mississippi, passed away on December 6, 2024. He was born on August 7, 1941, in Newton, Mississippi. Bill was a devoted husband to his wife, Marie Holmes, and a loving father to his sons, William (Maralee Davi) Holmes, Jr., Greg (Kim) Holmes, and Alan (Jennifer) Holmes. He also cherished his grandchildren, Kyle (Leah) Holmes, Justin Holmes, Kinley Holmes, William Holmes, Stephen Holmes, and Tyler Holmes.
Bill was known for his deep faith and love for the Lord. He was a charter member of Brandon First Baptist Church. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy, where he worked in communications. In his professional life, he made a significant impact as the Fire Chief in Brandon, where he served for many years. His dedication led him to start the Jaws for Life program in Rankin County and help organize various fire departments in the area. Bill was also a member of the State Board of Fire Chiefs, demonstrating his commitment to community service and safety.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing, collecting coins, and traveling. He had a passion for life that was evident in all he did.
Bill was preceded in death by his grandson, Preston Holmes; son, Calvin Holmes; brother, Jimmy Holmes; and his parents, Monroe and Ottris Storey Holmes.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on December 9, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Ott & Lee Funeral Homes in Brandon, Mississippi. A funeral service will be held on December 10, 2024, beginning at 11:00 AM, followed by a burial at Brandon Memorial Gardens at 12:00 PM.
Bill E. Holmes, Sr. will be remembered for his unwavering faith, dedication to family, and his lifelong contributions to the community. He leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
