William Glenn Nations, beloved father, grandfather, dentist, public servant, and fierce competitor, passed away on February 4, 2025, at the age of 82.
Born on June 28, 1942, in Greenville, Texas, William-lovingly known as Billy Glenn-grew up in Noble, Oklahoma, where he graduated from Noble High School in 1960. He pursued his passion for history at the University of Oklahoma before earning his degree in dentistry from Baylor University in 1968.
Following his education, Bill proudly served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1970. After completing his military service, he began his career as a dedicated dentist in 1970, a profession he remained committed to for many years. In addition to his private practice, Bill proudly served on the dental board with an amazing staff for the past ten years, working to uphold the integrity and excellence of the field.
In 1968, Bill married Teena Fay Kinsey, and together they built a life filled with family and service. Their bond remained strong until Teena's passing in August 2012 at the age of 69. After his wife's passing, he was lucky enough to share a relationship with Lynne Miller for more than ten years-a partnership full of family, travel, politics, and romance.
Beyond his professional career, Bill was deeply invested in public service. He served on the Norman City Council from 1986 to 1992 before being elected Mayor of Norman (1992–1998). In 1998, he transitioned into state politics, winning a seat in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. His commitment to his community and state left a lasting impact on those he served.
Bill was also an extreme competitor and lifelong athlete. He was an avid runner, completing two marathons, and he also qualified to participate in the 1996 Olympic trials in Atlanta, Georgia, for sailing. His drive, determination, and resilience were evident both on and off the road and water.
A lifelong supporter of University of Oklahoma athletics, Bill dedicated over a decade of service to the OU football and basketball programs. In the 1980s, he worked as a radio spotter for the OU football team and served as a scorekeeper for the OU basketball team. His passion for sports and his deep connection to the university brought him great joy and countless cherished memories.
Bill was a devoted father to his daughter, Tara Nations, and a loving grandfather to Andres Jaramillo. He cherished time with his family, including his close first cousins, Steve Powell, Pam Kenny, and Greg Powell, with whom he shared a lifelong bond.
A man of integrity, kindness, and deep civic responsibility, Bill's legacy of service, dedication, and unwavering commitment will continue to be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in
