Billy Jack Boomis, age 84, passed away at his home in Sycamore, Kansas on April 12, 2024.
Bill was born June 30, 1939, in Independence, Kansas the son of Bill Boomis and Ora Ollie (Grant) Boomis.
Bill graduated in 1958 from Independence High School and in 1960 from Independence Junior College. After graduation from college, he served 4 years in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge from service, Bill returned to Independence where he was employed by Star Craft Boats and Universal Atlas Cement until his retirement in approximately 2006. After retirement he drove cars for several automobile businesses including C&M Motors and Hertz Rentals. While in high school Bill played football and basketball and was a member of the “Kayo Boys.” He also played football in jr. college. Bill loved his horses and other animals which he raised on the “B.J. Ranch” in Sycamore. He enjoyed attending farm shows, rodeos, riding in various parades including the Grand Parade at the opening of the Inter State Fair and Rodeo in Coffeyville. He enjoyed riding through the countryside visiting his friends and enjoying the outdoors.
Survivors include, son, Doug Boomis, companion, Donna Reynolds, non-biological grandchildren, Morgan and Nathan, several nieces, nephews, and cousins; members of the “Class of 1958”; and many special friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, siblings Martha, Judy, Jimmy.
Member Berean Christian Mission Center, American Legion, and former member of the Independence Trail Riders.
Celebration of Life Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Berean Christian Mission Center, 405 South 19th, Independence, Kansas 67301 with Pastor Michael Rose, officiating.
Bill’s cremated remains will be interred at “B.J. Ranch” at 3911 CR 5800, Sycamore, Kansas with military honors..To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
