Billy Byble Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by O'Neil-Lawson Funeral Home on Jan. 28, 2026.
Billy W. "Bill" Byble was a remarkable man whose life was defined by love, faith, and service to others. Intelligent, creative, compassionate, and deeply loving, Bill lived with purpose and humility, always placing the needs of others before his own. He valued honest conversation, thoughtful reflection, and meaningful connection. He had a rare gift for speaking truth with gentleness, while offering guidance with generosity and care.

Bill wore many hats throughout his life. He was a son, brother, nephew, cousin, friend, and coworker to many, but the titles he cherished most were husband, father, and "Pop Pop". He was a devoted family man who worked tirelessly to provide for those he loved, help his friends, and share his belief in "doing things smarter so you don't have to work harder." His wisdom, patience, and subtle humor left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

A man of many interests, talents, and hobbies, Bill was a natural problem solver. He loved working jigsaw puzzles and playing games, especially a good round of Rummy or Aggravation with his family. Bill loved fishing, snorkeling, and collecting. He was an avid collector of coins, sand dollars, trains, and die-cast Caterpillar heavy equipment models-a nod to his lifelong career working as a master mechanic of diesel engines and heavy machinery. His expertise in that field was second to none, leading him to travel around the world inspecting equipment for multiple employers and earning respect wherever he went.

Bill was also an accomplished and award-winning photographer who ran a successful business, Byble Photo Service, alongside his wife, Carolyn. Through his lens, he captured moments of lasting significance, including the 1982 CHS State Championship football season, the Cumberland Falls Moonbow, and historic images of the final running of an L&N train- photographs treasured by many and reflective of his keen eye for beauty, history, and storytelling.

Above all else, Bill's faith was the foundation of his life. Having found his salvation, he devoted himself to sharing the love of Christ with others. From his early years at Fariston Christian Church, to his faithful service as a Trustee at 17th Street Christian Church, and finally his later years as a member of Community Christian Church, Bill sought to be a servant of the Lord. Whether through youth rallies, Vacation Bible School, or quiet acts of encouragement, he worked faithfully to be a positive influence and to bring others closer to Christ. He gave glory to God freely, trusting in Jesus Christ for strength, peace, and hope. He fought the good fight, finished his race, and did so with grace.

Bill leaves behind a legacy defined by love, integrity, wisdom, and faith. He taught those around him to think deeply, remain curious, seek help when needed, trust in something greater than themselves, and love without condition. His example as a husband, father, Pop Pop, and friend will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know him. Though Bill is no longer with us in body, his presence endures-in the hearts he shaped, the lives he touched, and the love he shared so freely. While his family mourns his passing, they rejoice in the assurance that Bill is now at peace, reunited with loved ones who went before him, and resting in the presence of his Savior.
