Billy Fred Cook, 88 years of age of Oakwood, VA passed away on Sunday, April 24th, 2022 in the Clinch Valley Medical Center at Richlands, VA. Born July 26, 1933 in Page, VA he was the son of the late Edd Cook and Mary Addison Cook.
Bill was a U.S. Army Veteran and member of the Garden United Methodist Church. He was one of the founding members of the Oakwood Volunteer Fire Department where he served over thirty years. He retired from Garden Supply after 40+ years and enjoyed gardening, hunting and loved to take hikes in the woods. Loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Bob, Perry and Jim Cook.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Billie Ruth Whited Cook of Oakwood, VA; and his son Glenn Edward Cook and wife Andrea of Cedar Bluff, VA; Grandson Aidan Riley Cook of Cedar Bluff; sisters Nell (Earl) Hurt of Oakwood, VA and Anna Cook of Washington, D.C.; brother Jack (Betty) Cook of Fort Myers, FL; and several nieces, nephews and special friends Randall (Brenda) Dye of Swords Creek, VA.
Funeral services for Billy Fred Cook will be conducted Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel at Keen Mountain, VA with Pastor Tom Whitten officiating with cremation to follow.
The family will receive friends Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the funeral home from 12 to 1:00 p.m.
Full military rights will be conducted at the funeral home by the American Legion John Ratliff Post 164 and the VFW Post 7360.
The funeral service will be live streamed and may be viewed on Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Homes Facebook page.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Garden United Methodist Church.
