Billy-Joe DeCerce Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Billy-Joe E. DeCerce, lovingly known as BJ, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, in Westchester, New York. Born on October 31, 1966, BJ was a spirited soul whose creativity and adventurous spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.
Raised in Charlton, New York, Billy-Joe was a graduate of Burnt Hills Ballston Lake High School, Class of 1984. His high school years were marked by his exceptional athleticism, setting running records in track and field. Billy-Joe's passion for music was evident from a young age, and he was known for his impressive talent with the guitar. He furthered his education at Cobbleskill Community College and went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree from SUNY Plattsburgh.
Billy-Joe began his career working in public relations and marketing for local news stations, WRGB-CBS6, News10-ABC, and FOX23; creating commercials was his specialty. Before embracing fatherhood, he pursued his rock 'n' roll dreams, touring Arizona with his band and leaving an indelible mark on the music scene. Locally, he was a celebrated musician, especially known for playing guitar with the popular band Whole-Shot. He lived his life as a disciple of Van Halen, embodying the spirit of rock music in every chord he played and every note he sang.
His tenure in the political sphere included working for New York State and contributing to Andrew Cuomo's campaign, where his technical skills were showcased through his speechwriting. Billy-Joe's proudest professional achievement was being part of the iconic I LOVE NEW YORK campaign.
A devoted father, Billy-Joe's children, Aleaha and Matthew, were the loves of his life. He raised them in the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake CSD alongside his former wife, Lisa, actively participating in their sports and instilling in them his zest for life.
He is survived by his loving parents, Robert B. and Donna DeCerce; his children, Aleaha and Matthew DeCerce; his brothers, William "Billy" DeCerce and Robert DeCerce; and his former wife, Lisa DeCerce.
Calling hours will be held at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, on Wednesday, October 8th from 6 PM to 8 PM. Burial will be held at Memory Gardens in Colonie on Thursday, October 9th, at 10 AM.
