Billy Gene Parsons

Billy Gene Parsons 81 of West Jefferson, passed away Monday, January 19, 2026 at his home. Bill was born September 15, 1944 to Alene and Paul Parsons of West Jefferson.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Mary Cox Parsons. One daughter Tammy Taylor and husband Steve of West Jefferson. Two grandsons Will and Wyatt Taylor of West Jefferson, one brother of Lansing, one sister Betty Miller and husband Bobby of Glendale Springs, as well as his extended family Brenda Osborne and husband Delano of West Jefferson, Lena Crumpton of Jefferson, Kathy Eller of Jefferson, Jackie "Coog" Cox of Lansing. Bill had many friends who he loved spending time with including one special friend Jeff "Buck" Lambert who he thought of as a brother.

Bill worked at Sprague Electric, Pike, then with a contractor for the telephone company. He finished his working career alongside his dad building houses.

Bill over came several obstacles in his life. In 1970, while in his mid-twenties he was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy. Despite doctor's predictions, he would soon not be able to walk or work again. In 1991, he walked his daughter down the aisle at her wedding. In early 2000, he faces another challenge where he was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer. But through every challenge he remained steadfast and uncomplaining.

In his life he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the simple things of life such as sitting on his porch looking at the south fork of the New River. But above all else Bill cherished his family deeply especially his two grandsons Will and Wyatt who brought him immense joy. Bill was a member of Obids Baptist Church where he loved to go when he was able.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Paul and Alene Parsons, and one brother Bucky Parsons.

The family ask for no flowers but memorials be made to Bills favorite charity Project Star the Christmas project for Senior Citizens in Ashe County.

The family would like to Thank Hospice for their kindness and great care for the last two weeks.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 2pm at Obids Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Mark Harless, Rev. Tom Graybeal, and Will Taylor.
