Billy "Bill" Gene Ray, a cherished patriarch, and a beacon of kindness, passed away on October 1, 2025, in Springfield, MO, leaving behind a legacy of love and faith. Born on February 25, 1932, in the quaint town of Romance, MO, Bill's life was a testament to the values of hard work, family, and service.
Married to his beloved wife, Nadine (Griffin) Ray, on September 19, 1954, Bill's life was enriched by the joy of raising two wonderful children. His daughter, Sheryl Ann Ray Huesing, and her husband, Alan, blessed him with grandchildren: Andrew, Jenna, and Kyle, and great-grandchildren: Havana, Abraham, Allegra, Charlotte, and Daniel. His son, Shaun Gene Ray, wife Laurie, and daughter, Britney Ray, further extending the warmth of his family circle.
Bill was preceded in passing by his parents, Leland and Lucy (Watson) Ray; his brother, Ralph Ray; his grandparents, Cornelius and Elizabeth Watson; and his nephew, Keith Dooley. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his surviving family members, including his daughter, Sheryl; his son, Shaun; his brothers, J.C. and Jackie Ray; and his sisters, Janice Dooley and Joyce Brixey.
A proud graduate of Gainesville High School, Gainesville, Missouri, Bill furthered his education by attending Southwest MO State, demonstrating his commitment to lifelong learning and personal development. His professional journey was marked by dedication and excellence, having worked at Selmier Peerless Laundry and Boeing Co.. After retirement, he delivered beauty supplies for State Beauty Supplies in Springfield, he also volunteered for the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks.
Billy served his country with honor in the United States Army, and then Army Reserves, continuing his service to fellow veterans at the Department of Veterans Affairs. He was part of the Korean War. Later, Bill was a part of a funeral honor guard group, rendering military honors for those who proudly served their country.
Bill's faith played a central role in his life; as a devout Christian, he lived his beliefs through his actions and relationships. His involvement with the National Rifle Association and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers reflected his passion for his interests and his commitment to community.
An avid outdoorsman, Bill found solace and joy in fishing and hunting. These activities not only provided him with a sense of peace but also allowed him cherished moments with family and friends.
Bill's love for his family was unparalleled; he was a man who built a foundation of love and integrity that supported and guided his loved ones.
Those who knew Bill would describe him as kind, loving, and faith-filled. His presence brought comfort and his actions spoke of a man deeply rooted in his values. Bill's legacy is not only in the lives he touched but also in the example he set-a life well-lived, marked by devotion to family, friends, his country, and faith.
As we bid farewell to Billy "Bill" Gene Ray, we celebrate a life that was truly a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit, characterized by unwavering kindness and love, will continue to inspire and guide us. Bill will be profoundly missed, but the memories he created will forever be a source of comfort and strength to his family and friends.
