Birgit Andersen

Birgit Andersen, a cherished mother, grandmother, and proud Norwegian-American, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, in Staten Island, New York. She was 87. Born on April 24, 1938, in T nsberg, Norway, Birgit's life was a testament to her resilience and devotion to her family. At the age of 15, she immigrated to America with her mother and siblings, bringing with her the traditions of her Norwegian homeland. Settling in New York, she embraced a new life with pride and grace. Birgit was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stanley Andersen, who passed away in 2021. Together, they raised three children: Roy, Vera, and Keith. Birgit was fiercely committed to her children's success, a value she instilled in each of them. Her home was always filled with family and served with traditional Norwegian dishes, which she prepared with pride. She passed on the stories and heritage of her culture, ensuring it would live on through the generations. Her greatest joy was her seven grandchildren - Lauren, Kara, Kirsten, Erik, Luke, Bridget and Zoey - who will carry her memory in their hearts. Birgit's strength and boundless determination touched all who. A Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc. located at 28 Eltingville Blvd Staten Island, New York 10312. Interment will be in Ocean View Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.
