Bishop Mocko Obituary

Rev. Bishop George Paul Mocko
BALTIMORE, MD - Reverend Bishop George Paul Mocko passed away at the Village at Augsburg, Baltimore, MD, on April 17, 2021.
George was born and raised in Little Falls, on Danube St., on the southside, the son of George and Anna Swancara Mocko. George was inspired by Holy Trinity Lutheran Pastor George Billy to become a Lutheran Pastor. From this early inspiration, George went on to become a minister in Pine Grove, PA, Wilmington, DE and lastly in Towson, MD, at Ascension Lutheran Church. He was elected as Bishop of the Delaware Maryland Synod, ELCA in 1991 and served for nine years in that position.
George attended Little Falls Central Schools, Hartwick College, Oneonta and Lutheran Theological Seminary, Philadelphia.
George was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Davidson Mocko; devoted father, of Paul Mocko (Ann), of DE, Kristopher Mocko, of DE, Elissa Mocko Hess and her husband, Bill, of Towson, MD and the late David Mocko (Susan). He was the grandfather of eight; and great-grandfather of four. He is also survived by his brother, Ronald Mocko (Kathleen), of Utica; and sister, Suzanne Mocko Perreault, of Niskayuna, NY; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bishop George enjoyed returning to Little Falls and visiting friends and family during Canal Days. Meeting up with his former LFHS classmates, Class of 1952, was always special to him.
A celebration of George's life for all friends will be on November 13, 2021, at Ascension Lutheran Church, Towson, MD. This celebration will feature the hymns, psalms and readings that he requested.
Funeral arrangements are with Ruck Funeral Home, Towson, MD.
