John Donald Mocko, 86, of Little Egg Harbor / Tuckerton NJ passed away on 6 March 2025 from complications due to colon cancer. He was born on 12 September 1938 in Newark NJ to parents John and Anna Mocko. He graduated from Union High School in 1956, and then from the Newark College of Engineering (now NJIT) with an Associate degree in Electrical Engineering in 1960. John served two years (1961-1963) in the U.S. Army, primarily at Fort Huachuca in Arizona, ending with the rank of Specialist 5 in the Signal Corps. He was married to Linda Quinlan for 45 years, raising four sons in Madison NJ. John was a computer programmer and manager for many different companies, including Loews, Conde Nast, and DMR Trecom. He spent the first 35 years of his career creating and working around the Y2K bug, and the final 5 years of his career fixing it. After retirement, John moved from Madison to the Little Egg Harbor / Tuckerton area, where he was very involved with American Legion Post 493 in Mystic Island NJ.
John was preceded in death by his older brother, Douglas Mocko, and by his grandson, Jake Peter Mocko. He is survived by his four sons: David Michael (Alison) Mocko, Steven Robert Mocko, Bryan Edward Mocko, and James Jonathan (Asma Abid) Mocko; grandchildren: Madeline Taylor Mocko, Sage Elizabeth Mocko, Nicholas Tesla Mocko, Paige Elizabeth Mocko, Kiran Daniel Mocko, and Amani Brea Mocko; his sister-in-law Margaret Mocko; and many nieces and nephews.
