Blas graduated from Fox Tech High School in 1965. In 1966, he entered the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. Blas received an Associates of Commercial Art Advertising in 1975 from San Antonio College. On December 18, 1999, he married Patsy Mallett. They were blessed with twenty-five years of marriage.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Rivera; sons from prior marriage, Michael Rivera (Evelyn), Steven Rivera (Vickie), Blas Rivera, Jr. (Rosalind), Gabriel Rivera (Lucinda); stepchildren, Donald Melton (Margie), Ronald Melton (Marlo), and stepdaughter, Priscilla Pacheco (Michael); twenty-four grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Rivera and Alex Rivera; as well as numerous in-laws and other relatives.
Blas was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Rafael Ebaben; and his baby brother.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with the Holy Rosary recited at 5:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville, Texas. Interment with Military Honors will follow 1:45 p.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
