Sarah Mae Knibbe Tondre, age 82, of San Antonio (La Coste Community), passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, in San Antonio, surrounded by family.

Sarah was born on April 8, 1943, in Boerne, Texas, the only child of Felix Norris Knibbe and Haytee Mae Jackson Knibbe. She grew up in Bandera, where she formed lasting friendships and graduated from Bandera High School. She went on to attend San Antonio Business School, preparing for a life devoted to her family and community.

On May 5, 1962, Sarah married Norman Joseph Tondre. Together they made their home in the La Coste community, raising three sons-Michael, Kenneth, and Jeffrey-while also working side by side on the farm.

Sarah was a devoted homemaker and caregiver, ensuring her children had the support and guidance they needed. After her children were grown, she found joy in working as a substitute teacher for Medina Valley ISD from 1991 until schools closed during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. She became a familiar face in the classroom and was remembered for her steady presence and kindness.

Her commitment to young people extended far beyond her own family. Sarah was a 4-H volunteer for 49 years, including nearly 25 years as Club Manager of the Southwest Roughriders. As a youth, she was honored as a Texas 4-H Gold Star recipient, one of the program's highest recognitions. As an adult leader she was recognized with the Gift of Time award, reflecting her decades of leadership, mentorship, and dedication to youth development.

Sarah will be remembered for her love of gardening, her cooking, and the many ways she supported and helped raise her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Haytee Knibbe; her husband, Norman; and her son, Kenneth, who passed away at the age of six.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Sandra Tondre, and Jeffrey and Amber Tondre, all of La Coste. Her grandchildren include Mikala Jo Tondre-Flores (Joshua) and Braden Tondre, children of Michael and Sandra; and Krystal Tondre and her late sister, Kellie Tondre, daughters of Jeffrey and Amber.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. A Graveside Service with Interment will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery in La Coste, Texas.

Sarah's life was one of quiet devotion, care, and resilience. She is now reunited with Norman, Kenneth, and Kellie, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
