Obituary published on Legacy.com by G.H. Herrmann Funeral Homes - Greenwood on Jul. 7, 2025.
G. Robert "Bobby" Herrmann, 88, passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, July 6, 2025 at his residence in Indianapolis. Born September 22, 1936 to the late Ruth & George Harry Herrmann, Bob was a life long southsider.
He was raised into the family funeral business - G.H. Herrmann Funeral Home, which was founded by his father in 1926. Throughout the years, Bob was instrumental in expansion of both the funeral home and cemetery in Greenwood. He was proud to pass the business on to his son and daughter in law, April, and was looking forward to celebrating 100 years in business.
Bob met the love of his life Noramae Branham on a blind date and they wed May 1, 1966 at Zion Evangelical Church. They cherished time together and enjoyed vacationing on Sanibel Island during the summer months until retiring and becoming full time residents. They remained there until hurricane Ian in 2022.
A car and race enthusiast, Bob had the "Need for Speed" starting at a very young age. He spent
many days as a young boy in the garage of Indy's own Cannonball Baker next door to his childhood home in Garfield Park. He had many memories from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with family and friends. Over the years he has enjoyed long phone conversations, fast cars, running, biking and searching for unique and odd furnishings. Bob enjoyed playing the piano, studying climate and had a soft spot for all animals.
An avid boater, he spent many summer nights at Lamb Lake and Monroe Lake. His love for the water began during his time at Culver Military Academy, where he learned Maritime Law and gained a passion for sailing and boating. He was a member of the Power Squadrons and enjoyed fast boats as much as fast cars.
He will be missed by his wife of 59 years, Noramae; his son, Jeffrey N. Herrmann and his wife April; his beloved grandson, Ike; and many dear friends. He was a beloved uncle to Kathryn, Linda, Ann, Lisa, Rich, Greg, and Mark.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Joan M. (Richard) Carlen; two infant sons, Garth and Douglas Herrmann; sister in law, Shirley (Chuck) Roberts, and best friend and partner in crime, Freddie Frazier.
