Bob Miller

Robert Forrest Miller went to his heavenly home, on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, surrounded by family. Bob was born September 24, 1941, in Ortello Dale Valley, to Forrest and Genevieve (Lepant) Miller, and was the oldest of seven children. He started his life's journey on the "ranch" homesteaded by his great grandmother, and he attended grade school at several country schools. For a brief time, his family worked on the Phil Tierney Ranch near Oconto where he attended Tuckerville School. While growing up, Christmas was always a highlight, when Gen made the kids’ favorite foods, Bob’s being spaghetti and meatballs. Bob graduated from Anselmo High School in 1959.

After graduation, Bob worked on ranches in the Sandhills, the railroad, and the lumberyard in Thedford until he was drafted in 1964. Bob served in the US Army and attended basic training in Fort Leonard, MO. His nickname was “yo-yo” while in the service because he constantly climbed and fell in the ranks, due to his ornery pranks. He always said he peeled a lot of potatoes in the service because of those pranks. Homesickness, and maybe a couple drinks, even caused him to get a “mother” tattoo on his arm. Bob returned from the service in 1966.

Bob met the love of his life, Judith Moore, while at Dreamland dancing. They were married June 14, 1969, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Broken Bow, Nebraska. To this union, they welcomed four children: Brad, Julie, Brian, and Brett.

Bob worked for KN Energy for more than 30 years. Bob’s family spent many years partnering with his brother, Bill, and family raising hogs and cattle, which included almost daily trips to Anselmo to chore. Bob was a great example of hard work, always providing for his family.

For many years, Bob and Judy made memories while traveling, following grandkids to many events, namely rodeo, camping, and dancing. Bob loved the Sandhills and sharing the “ranch” with his grandkids in later years. Bob instilled his love of horses in his kids and grandkids, which has turned into quite an expensive hobby.

Bobby Jack worked hard but also loved to play hard. He loved to frequent “the office” and even talked grandkids into chauffeuring him there in later years, and was also famous for saying, “let’s have one more and we’ll all go home.”

Bob always had a smile on his face, quite often a little smirk, giggled often, and never met a stranger. He never judged, loved telling stories, and his family.

Bob is survived by his wife Judy (Moore) Miller of 55 years and children: Brad (Stephanie) Miller, Julie (Chuck) Drake, Brian (Tara) Miller, and Brett (Michelle) Miller, along with grandchildren Derek and Drew Drake, Chase (Tara), Sean (Abbey), Seth (Claire), Matthew, Cody (Courtney), Sid, Zachary, and Haylea Miller, and great grandson Daylon Miller. Bob is also survived by his brothers, Mike (Carolyn) Miller and Ron (Deb) Miller, and sisters, Deanna (Curtis) Schroeder and Deb Golff.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Genevieve (Lepant) Miller, infant brother Stephen, brother Bill, infant grandson Shay, and many in-laws.

Funeral service will be Monday, June 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Broken Bow, with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery with military honors. Memorials are suggested to the Custer County Foundation for later designation by the family. A rosary will be held Sunday, June 8th, at 6:00 PM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
