Linda Sue (Satterfield) Greer was born on September 1, 1941, in Ord, Nebraska to George A. and Olivia F. (Moore) Satterfield and passed on September 20, 2025.
Linda spent much of her young life in the sandhills of Nebraska cherishing her time being "Uncle Tommy Moore's young un'" and enjoying her days with Grandma Moore. She graduated from Loup County Public Schools, where she built lifelong friendships, attended community dances, explored watermelon fields and watched movies in the park. After graduation, she attended Nebraska Wesleyan University where she studied radiology and worked at Lincoln General Hospital.
She married Dan Greer on May 7, 1961, and they raised 3 daughters in Lincoln, Nebraska. While there, Linda represented the Welcome Wagon, enjoyed weekly bridge games, shuttled her children as well as neighborhood children to school and activities. Spurred by Linda's love of the sandhills and Taylor and the desire to share that love with her family, there were many family trips to the area. Staying at the Williams Homestead farm with Uncle Tommy Moore, Granny Olivia Satterfield and Aunt Mary Tockey along with dinners and activities with the Moon, Strong, Peters, Hyde and Dunbar families were abundant. Visits from the Satterfield, Morice, Ferguson and Greer relatives were always a good time as well as enjoying Rose Schmidt's homemade noodles and dances at La Cantina.
After multiple visits to Arizona to visit her sister Ellen Morice and family, Dan and Linda relocated to Cave Creek, Arizona in 1981. They established a direct mail business, and later, Linda owned and operated a cactus shop and worked as a paraprofessional in the special education department at Cave Creek Unified School District. She enjoyed gardening, collecting dolls, attending doll club and searching for treasures in second-hand shops.
In 1997, Linda purchased the family homestead in Taylor, Nebraska and began to spend her summers there. Her annual pilgrimage from Arizona to Nebraska was always quite an adventure. She would pack the conversion van with her dogs and cats, hook up her horse trailer with her beloved miniature horse Henry, a royal palm turkey Tommy T, and a goat named Philip and hit the road. During the summer, grandchildren would come to spend time with their Nana ....again, spreading her love of the sandhills with the next generation. Every 4th of July was a special celebration with family and friends capped off with a spectacular firework display.
In 2012, Dan and Linda built a new home on the homestead and moved to Taylor full time. Linda continued to enjoy gardening, having coffee and conversations on the front porch with family and friends, reconnecting with friends, attending auctions, secondhand shopping, junk jaunting and trying to convince everyone they should live in Taylor. One of her key "selling" points was the quality education available at Loup County Public Schools. Passionate about preserving her family's homestead, Linda devoted herself to maintaining the farmhouse, barns and outbuildings, Her longtime dream of restoring the original log cabin was fulfilled in 2024, with authentic furnishing completed in May 2025. In June of that year, she proudly saw the cabin featured on Pure Nebraska.
Her desire to have the homestead remain in the family and her love of the sandhills is instilled in her surviving family and the 150th anniversary will be celebrated in 2026. Survivors include daughters Kyle(Chuck) Shepard of Taylor, Tracy(Rob) O'Connor of Taylor/Cave Creek, five grandchildren Cory Shepard(Claire Pasco), Morgan Shepard(Eddy Strachan), Nicole(Dakota) O'Connor, Taylor Vaughn, Kendrick(Kenna) Vaughn, three step-grandchildren Charles Shepard(Nicole Tran), Justin O'Connor and Nicholas O'Connor, 11 great grandchildren, Booker Shepard, Blake Shepard, Tyson Carr, Tiffany Swanner, Ella and Lindley Vaughn, Lincoln, Landrie and Alex Vaughn and Ranae and River Kusler.
