Bobbie Mitchell Barbee, 103, of Gulfport, MS, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Easter Sunday in Gulfport, MS.
Bobbie was born in Marianna, AR on January 8, 1922, to Lillian and Raymond Mitchell. Shortly after, the family moved to Lula, MS. Bobbie graduated from Lula Rich High School and attended Draughn's Business School in Memphis, TN. In 1946, she married William Lester Barbee, and together they raised five children. Bobbie was an active member of Lula Baptist Church for many years and served as church treasurer for 30 years. She also served as an alderman for the Town of Lula before resigning, after her son Walter became town clerk. Bobbie retired from Sunburst Bank in 1987. Bobbie loved reading, doing needlepoint and was an avid Mah Jongg player most of her life. She enjoyed her time with friends and family. Due to failing eyesight, she moved to Seashore Highlands Assisted Living in Gulfport, MS in 2014, where she was a faithful member of Parkway Baptist Church in Biloxi, MS.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents Lillian and Raymond A. Mitchell, Sr.; her brothers, Raymond A. Mitchell, Jr. and Joe A. Mitchell; her husband of 47 years, William Lester Barbee; her oldest son Bill Barbee and daughter in law Deena Barbee; and her daughter Martha Barbee Young and her son in law Mike Young. She is survived by her son Walter Barbee of Gulfport, her son Bob Barbee (Iwanna) of Madison, her son Jim Barbee (Diana) of Madison; Granddaughters Jessica Barbee Ruth of Grenada, Lisa Barbee Nooe (Grant) of Brandon, and Claire Johnson (James) of Atlanta, GA; and Grandsons Michael Barbee (Macy) of Dallas, TX, Brad Barbee, (Emily) of Brandon, and Doug Roberts of Nashville, TN; nephew Robert Mitchell of San Antonio, TX; and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Meredith Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale on Wednesday starting at 1:00 until 2:00 with burial afterwards in Barbee Cemetery at Lula, MS.
