Marshall Stone Ellis, Jr.

April 3, 1955 – October 1, 2025

Marshall Stone Ellis, Jr. passed away October 1, 2025, following a lengthy illness. He was 70 years old. Stone was born April 3, 1955, and spent his boyhood and young adult years in Clarksdale. He was a 1973 graduate of Lee Academy and was highly recognized for his accomplishments in basketball. He received his Journalism degree from Ole Miss in 1978 and worked in advertising at The Clarksdale Press Register. In 1986, he moved to Biloxi where he was appointed advertising director of The Sun Herald newspaper.

Affectionally known as "Doc" to his many friends. Stone was a devoted husband, son, brother, father, friend and would literally drop what he was doing to help anybody. His generosity was exceeded only by his friendly nature. Stone was a lifelong member of St. George's Episcopal Church. He was a Rotary member in both Clarksdale and Biloxi. Stone was a member of the Delta Jumpers Skydiving Team accumulating over 200 jumps. He loved water skiing, working in the yard, a love of photography, love for animals, but mostly devoting his time to family.

Stone survivors include his wife Julie Rodgers Hughes of Hattiesburg, MS; daughter Alexandra Ellis of D'iberville, MS; brother Wilson Ellis of Lyon, MS; grandchildren Caidon Adler & Dawson Adler; niece Sarah Black of Lafayette, LA.

Stone was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Marshall Stone Ellis (1999), his mother Betty Wilson Ellis (2017), his brother Andy Ellis (2025), and his sister Jennie Black (2010).
