Mr. Bobby Albert Clarence Boorigie, “Bob”, 87, of Sycamore, Kansas, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 22, 1937, in Independence, Kansas, Bob dedicated his life in service to the US Army and his community.
Bob, served in various military roles throughout his 30 plus years of service to the US Army. He retired from the Army Reserves as a Full Bird Colonel and served as Chief of Staff at the 89th ARCOM in Wichita, Kansas.
After Bob’s retirement, he chose to move back to his hometown area of Independence and take on new love as a cattle rancher working on his picturesque ranch aka “the farm”, in Sycamore. The military trained him well for the dawn to dusk retired work on the farm. He loved nothing more than to feed his cows and run the tractor through the fields during haying season. Gathering friends and family for deer hunting in the fall was a highlight of the year.
Work on the farm was not enough to fill his days or his soul, so he continued to serve his community, country and the military in auxiliary roles. He was an active leader in the local American Legion of Independence. He also served as an Ambassador of the US Army for the state of Kansas often seeing troops off on deployment and then later receiving them back home.
Bob is survived by his wife, the love of his life Delores, who he was happily married to for 68 years. He was also survived by his son Rob Boorigie and daughter Debbie Tull, his five grandchildren Melanie Tull, Michael Tull, Maddie Boorigie, Carson Boorigie and Evan Boorigie. He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Betty Boorigie, sisters Colleen Edwards, Patsy Boorigie, Mary Miesner, and his beloved grandson Casey Tull.
Bob was a graduate of Pittsburg College in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Bob loved to work as much as he loved to play. He was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed playing and watching basketball and football. In his earlier years he served as a referee of many sports.
Bob was a big supporter of many community causes and made frequent contributions of his time, talents and treasures. He was most passionate about education as the way to enrich life. Please consider a donation in lieu of flowers to support The Casey Tull Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Catholic Foundation in Dallas, Texas or St. Andrews School in Independence, Kansas where he and his children all attended school.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2025 to honor his final wishes. A date will be announced later.
