Bobby Don Brantley, age 82, of Knoxville, TN., passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2024. Bobby joined the United States Air Force in 1964, and served until 1984. He was a recipient of one Bronze Star, two Meritorious Service, and Vietnam Service medals. Bobby had a BA in Sociology from Baylor University, MS in Political Science (foreign studies) from University of Dayton, MS in Management in Information Systems from the University of Denver, in addition to course work at both the University of Boston and NOVA (Virginia). After retiring from the Air Force as a Major, he worked for Atlantic Research Corp. from 1990-1993 and Lockheed Martin from 1996-2005.
He loved music, traveling, and performing community service. He was a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society and Concord United Methodist Church.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie and Ruby Maurine Brantley.
Bobby is survived by loving wife, Ona Brantley of Knoxville, TN.; daughters, Deborah Dorr, of Dallas, TX., Laura Brantley, of Orlando, FL.; sister, Peggy Portillo, of San Antonio, TX.; grandchildren, Spencer Dorr, of Detroit, MI., Sean Dorr of Madrid, Spain, Kayla Anderson, of Seattle, WA., Ashley Principe, of Knoxville, TN., Mitchel Vevera, of Orlando, FL., Shae Vevera, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.; great grandchildren, Stella and Sullivan.
A graveside service will be held at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E. Governor John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920, on Friday, February 9, 2024 beginning at 8:30 a.m. Military honors provided by the United States Air Force and East Tennessee State Volunteer Honor Guard. A memorial service will be held at Concord United Methodist Church, 11020 Roane Dr., Knoxville, TN. 37934, beginning at 2:00 p.m., William Cantrell and Dr. Larry Webb officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, or Tunnel To Towers, links below.
