Bobby Jerald Canady

Bobby Jerald Canady, 92, passed peacefully on November 6, 2025, at Lowcountry Community Hospice House in Summerville, South Carolina, following a brief illness.

Bobby was born June 25, 1933, in Emanuel County, Georgia, to the late John Canady and Ethel Johnson Canady. He attended Garfield School. Among his first jobs was at The Varsity Drive-In in Atlanta in 1950. He then worked at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, South Carolina until he was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War in 1952. He completed basic training at Fort Dix in Trenton, New Jersey and was then stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. After serving two years as Private First Class, he was honorably discharged in May of 1956 earning the National Defense Service Medal. After his military service, Bobby began working in the construction industry in the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut Tri-State region. After a few years, he relocated back to Georgia and continued work in the construction industry in the Atlanta Metro area. In the late 1970s he returned to Emanuel County where he continued his work in the construction industry, becoming an independent contractor. He also managed numerous entrepreneurial endeavors over the years including a General Store in Canoochee, Georgia for much of the 1980s. However, most of his professional life was spent as a builder and brick mason, where he built hundreds, perhaps thousands of homes across East Georgia, from Augusta to Statesboro and many other towns nearby and in between. A few of his personal projects of pride include the construction of Liberty Square and the rehabilitation of Historic Courthouse Square, both in Waynesboro, Georgia, and the Historic Brinson Cemetery rehabilitation project in Canoochee, Georgia.

Bobby is survived by his son Bobby Jerald Canady, Jr., “Jay" of Charleston, South Carolina; son Robbie Canady (Tyra) of Covington, Georgia; daughter Emily Long of Soperton, Georgia; stepson Danny Haycraft of Milton, Florida; sister Ann Proctor of Millen, Georgia; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, several cousins, and many nieces and nephews. Bobby is predeceased by his parents, wife of 39 years Sue Canady of Midville, Georgia, brother Robbie Canady of Garfield, Georgia, brother Ollie Canady of Covington, Georgia, brother Ira Canady of Millen, Georgia, brother Marvin Canady of Garfield, Georgia, sister Ola Mae Jones of Marietta, Georgia; sister Merlene Hutchinson of Adrian, Georgia.

Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Garfield, Georgia with Reverend Randy Graham officiating.

Interment will follow the Memorial Service in the cemetery at Mount Olivet Baptist Church.

The family will host a luncheon and receive friends at noon following morning worship service in the fellowship hall at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.
