Bobby Cox, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on January 13, 2025, at the age of 76. He was born in Hartford, Alabama, on August 20, 1948. Bobby was a graduate of Leon High School in Tallahassee, FL. Upon completion of high school, he began his career with Southeastern Telephone Company, which later became Sprint, dedicating 32 years of service before retiring in 2001.
In high school, Bobby was a passionate baseball player, a talent he continued to nurture as he played in a league for the telephone company, where he excelled as a pitcher. His love for sports and the outdoors remained a constant throughout his life. He married the love of his life, Dinah Hardy, in 1981, and together they built a life full of love, adventure, and cherished memories. This year, they would have celebrated 44 years of marriage on April 16, 2025.
Bobby's passion for adventure took him on many motorcycle rides, with the Blue Ridge Parkway in Cherokee, NC, being one of his favorite destinations. For over 20 years, Bobby and Dinah enjoyed a vacation home in Cherokee, where they spent countless trips with family and friends, creating memories that will last a lifetime. He was also an avid wave-runner enthusiast, often seen gliding across lakes and rivers with Dinah and close friends. In his younger years, Bobby took great joy in teaching children how to ski on Lake Jackson, making lasting connections with those he loved.
A true outdoorsman at heart, Bobby was an avid hunter, and some of his most cherished moments were spent hunting with his son, grandchildren, and dear friend, Steve Winn. His love for family extended to the baseball field, where he was a proud supporter of his grandson, Cale, who followed in his footsteps and played the sport Bobby so dearly loved.
Bobby is preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Jeanette Cox, and four brothers: David, Roger, Joe, and Levon Cox. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dinah Cox; his son, Darin (and his wife Becky, and children Caylee, Carah, and Cale Cox); his daughter, Demi Degagne (and her husband, Russ Degagne); and his beloved cat, Rascal (Raz), who was one of his great joys. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him deeply.
The family will receive friends for a visitation at Bevis Funeral Home on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Bobby's legacy of love, adventure, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Todd Wahlquist is assisting the family with their arrangements (850-385-2193, www.bevisfh.com).

I am so sorry to hear about Bobby and Lavon´s death. My family, the Folsoms, lived across the street, top of the hill, from the Cox´s. I have so many memories of the Cox boys. Several of us girls in the neighbor, would walk up and down Homewood Road just hoping those Cox boys would come outside. We played softball, loop tennis, tag, dodge ball, road bikes, you name it, we did it. Would not take anything for the memories. May God give you comfort and peace.
Love to all,
