Obituary for Robert "Bobby" C. Ferguson Jr.
Robert "Bobby" C. Ferguson Jr., 78, of Houston County, Georgia, went to join our Lord on May 24, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m. Born on June 11, 1946, in Macon, Georgia, Bobby was a lifelong resident of Houston County, where he left an indelible mark on his community.
Raised on a farm in Bonaire, Bobby's early years were shaped by hard work and faith. As a child, he helped build and was the last charter member of Kathleen Baptist Church, now the Southside Baptist Church Kathleen campus.
A 1964 graduate of Warner Robins High School, Bobby began his career with Southern Bell Telephone & Telegraph, later becoming the program manager for Avaya on Robins Air Force Base. There, he oversaw the significant transition from copper wires to fiber optics, retiring in 2012 after a distinguished career.
Bobby's service extended to his country through a 25-year career in the Georgia Air Force National Guard, retiring in 1996 as a Senior Master Sergeant with multiple overseas deployments.
In the early 1990s, he stepped away from farming, a cornerstone of his life, but his industrious spirit led him to work at R&S Industrial Supply and Houston Hardware post-retirement, proving he was never one to slow down.
A gifted musician, Bobby began piano lessons at age 8 and became the beloved pianist for his church. In the 1970s, he played with The Kathleen Five, sharing his talent and joy with the community.
Known for his warm, generous spirit, Bobby seemed to know everyone in Houston County-and those who knew him loved him dearly.
Bobby is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Diane Roberts Ferguson; son, Robert Scott Ferguson (Shannon); daughter, Shannon Ferguson Fuller (Stacey); grandchildren, Gabriella, Kayla, Laramie (Jacob), McKinley, and Jarred; great-grandchild Tate (Laramie); brother, William Joseph Ferguson (Betsy); and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert C. Ferguson Sr.; mother, Evelyn Anderson Ferguson; brother, Charles Edwin Ferguson Sr.; and sister-in-law, Bobbie Ferguson.
A celebration of Bobby's life will be held at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 2:00 pm with entombment immediately following at Magnolia Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends and family starting at 12:30 pm at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel. Reverends Jerry Walls, Matt Walls, Jeremy Emory, and Mr. David Davidson will be officiating the services.
Bobby's legacy of faith, service, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. With honor, Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Bobby Ferguson, please visit our Tree Store.
