Bobby Ray Thompson, 83, of Burleson, went to be with his heavenly father on October 28, 2023, after a lengthy illness.
Bobby was born in Dublin, Texas on December 4, 1939, to James and Lucille Thompson of Gustine. Bobby loved the Gustine community where he spent his early life working on the family farm, participating in football, basketball, and FFA. He graduated from Gustine High School in 1958.
On June 6, 1959, Bobby married the love of his life, Wanda Lou Hagood. They lived an almost inseparable life together for over 64 years.
Bobby graduated from the University of Texas in Arlington in 1966 with a degree in business administration. Upon graduating, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy, and he remained a loyal patriot all his life. In 1971, he and Wanda returned to Comanche and began a data processing company which they later expanded to serve county appraisal districts around the state.
From there, Bobby and his wife, Wanda, made the decision to move to Burleson to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren in 2007. In Burleson, Bobby was a loyal member of Pathway Church for many years.
Most of all, Bobby was known as a devoted husband, a beloved Daddy, and a proud Papa. He was a loving patriarch to his family, a good friend to all, and a generous man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone he met. He loved spending time with family and friends, and he always had a way of making people feel special and genuinely cared for. Bobby was a strong, proud man who was dearly loved and will be missed by many.
Bobby is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Hagood Thompson; daughter Susan Thompson Tolar of Burleson; grandson Garrett Tolar and wife Gwen Branch Tolar of Bearden, Arkansas, and granddaughter Grace Tolar of Burleson. He is also survived by brother-in-law Kenneth Hagood and wife Kay Hagood of Comanche, brother-in-law Glen Hagood of Georgetown, and one sister-in-law, Marilyn Hagood of Abilene. Also, Bobby had many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be at Heartland Funeral Home of Comanche on Friday, November 3 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 4 at 11 a.m. at Heartland Funeral and Cremations in Comanche with burial to follow at Union Cemetery in Gustine.
