Bonnie M. Swihart, 84, of Winfield passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at Aultman Compassionate Care in Canton.
Wife of William "Bill" Swihart whom she married on September 15, 1990, she was the daughter of the late Ward Croft and Donna (Gindlesberger) Croft Norris. Born in Millersburg on May 16, 1941, she was a 1959 graduate of Baltic High School and owned and operated her own beauty business for over 30 years in Baltic. Upon marrying Bill, she moved her business to Winfield and retired in 1999, and later helped in different shops.
Bonnie was active in Baltic, serving as organist at St. John Lutheran Church for many years, served on Baltic Council, Baltic Business Organization, and helped start Swiss Valley EMT Squad getting classes organized and also served as an EMT. She also made a run for Mayor of Baltic. Bonnie also started the Tuscarawas Singles Group where she met Bill. Later upon moving to Winfield, she was active at Dover First UMC being involved in different organizations, and helping with the Bazaar, rummage sales, and making candy. She was a member of Dover First United Methodist Church for over 34 years being a member of the Ruth Circle, and UMW secretary for many years, and also served on the church SPR Committee. She was a part of the church ladies Birthday Bunch that would go out once a month to celebrate, even if no one had a birthday.
Her hobbies included gardening, fish pond, loving her family, and babysitting her grandchildren which sometimes included their dogs. She loved cats and dogs and had many throughout her life. She took pride and loved floral arranging and did flowers for her granddaughters and nieces weddings, and also the church for many occasions. Bonnie also loved family get-together's and going out with friends.
In addition to her husband Bill, she is survived by her children Mitch (Michele) Stein of Sugarcreek, Greg Stein of Winfield, Brent (Darlene) Stein of North Carolina, and Matt (Michelle) Stein of New Philadelphia; Bill's sons Doug, Ed, and Matt; sisters Carol Lautenschleger of Strasburg, and Debbie (Terry) Gerber of Sugarcreek; grandchildren Ashley, Justin, Haley, Curt, Caleb, Sabrina, Ian, Olyvia, Stephanie, and Julianna; and six great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ward Croft, Donna Croft Norris and her husband Leo Norris, Leo's daughter and her husband Zoe Ann and Ray Worthington, brother-in-law Glen Lautenschleger; and her loving niece Tiffany Gerber Green.
In honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service for Bonnie will be held at Dover First United Methodist Church on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Wesley George officiating. A private burial will occur at Union Hill Cemetery in Sugarcreek at a later date. Friends may call at the church from 10-11 am (one hour prior to the service.)
