Carol Welling Boltz, our dear daughter, wife, mother, sister and friend, passed from this life on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Park Village Southside under the care of Crossroads Hospice. She was 55.
Having just found out in January that she had advanced cancer, Carol did all she could to stay with us. But that was not to be. Sadly, she leaves behind her greatest accomplishments: her sons, Chase, 18, and Weston, 16.
Carol Sue Welling was born February 27, 1970 to John and Cora Mutti Welling of Hummel Valley, New Philadelphia. She was the little sister of Mary Welling. She graduated from New Philadelphia High in 1988 and continued her education at Mount Union College, where she was a founding member of the Delta Sigma Tau sorority. Carol always loved kids so she became a teacher..and not just any teacher but a middle school teacher!
She spent her entire 30-year teaching career at Newcomerstown and touched countless lives. She was the proud advisor of PACCT - the middle school student volunteer organization. Carol was well-known throughout the school for her "caroling" - especially Happy Birthday and Christmas songs. She won the WTUZ Teachers are Tops award twice and on August 20, 2025, she was presented with the Newcomerstown Schools Friend of Education award.
4-H also was a big part of her life. She began as a 4-H member as a child and served for many years as an advisor for the Above & Beyond 4-H Club. Having been raised on a dairy farm, she always supported the local dairy industry and was named the Tuscarawas County Dairy Princess in 1986.
In 1993, she met her future husband, James E. Boltz II, at TJ's Restaurant in Stone Creek. They married October 29, 1994. While living in Stone Creek, Carol served on village council and as mayor. She obtained her Master's degree from Malone College.
Eventually, she moved back to Hummel Valley. She and her family continued to farm the Welling family farm and expanded it in 2018 by opening the Boltz Family Farm Market there. She also opened an Air BnB on the farm property in 2023 to keep her occupied in retirement. Carol's involvement in the community through the Market and the rental led to her receiving many awards over the years. Shortly after her diagnosis, she learned she was named one of the 40 Leading Ladies of Tuscarawas County.
Carol was preceded in death by her grandparents, Robert & Mildred (Grandma Mick) Welling and Willis & Sylvia Mutti; her Uncle Tom Welling; and her brother-in-law, Robert Gano.
She will be missed terribly by her parents, John and Cora; her husband, James; her sons, Chase and Weston; her sister, Mary; her aunt, Susan Cihon and cousins Jennifer and Michael; her very special cousin, Brenda Kay Mutti Kline; and her many, many friends.
There will be no public services. A celebration of Carol's life will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at the Boltz Family Farm Market from 12-4 PM.
Memorials in Carol's memory may be made to the Tuscarawas County Jr. Dairy Committee 5455 Angel Valley Road SW, Stone Creek, Ohio 43840.
