Boyd Mackson Crone, age 102 of Williamsport, IN, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025 at Autumn Trace in Attica.
Boyd was born in Warren County, IN on June 8, 1922. He was the son of John Blessing Crone and Irene (Hall) Crone. Boyd was a graduate of West Lebanon High School. He married Virginia R. Smith on September 28, 1942 at her parents’ home in rural Warren County. She preceded him in death on March 20, 2013.
Boyd was a life-long resident of Warren County. He began farming starting at the beginning of WWII since his father and brother were both involved in the War. In the 70s he retired from farming and started building authentic log homes and cabins using mostly salvaged logs, beams, and lumber from old barns and houses. He built over 95 log structures throughout IN, Central KY, and IL. He built a log home, 3 story barn, and other out-buildings on Orcas Island, Washington State. His first authentic pioneer log cabin he moved from Kingman, IN to his property near Tab in 1970 and used it to help educate grade school children about our country’s beginnings on the prairie. He worked with others to build an authentic pioneer log cabin at the Illiana Steam and Power Show.
Boyd was a member of the Tab Church of Christ.
Surviving are:3 children, Ron (Roberta) Crone of Lancaster, SC, William (PJ) Crone of Williamsport, IN, and Carol (Fred) Marques of Mishawaka, IN;
8 grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren;
17 great-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren;
4 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way
Boyd was preceded in death by his parents; brother, J. Hall Crone; and sister, Anna Jean Hunter.
Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until funeral service time at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Rod Andrews officiating. Interment will follow at West Lebanon Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.gradyfuneralhome.com.
